Rewilding Europe, for example, is one such organization that works to create more wild areas around Europe. The term rewild is also the name of a lifestyle that is spreading rapidly and that means living more in harmony with nature. By studying how indigenous people live and taking advantage of the knowledge they have, they are investing in learning to collect and use wild plants, fish, hunt and live in a way that is natural to humans. An American advocate for a wilder life is Daniel Vitalis, who explains rewilding as “finding your inner monkey”. He is dedicated to trying to solve the stress of the modern lifestyle with ancient methods that he adapts to our time. Check out his website, it is thought-provoking! http://www.danielvitalis.com/
During all the years that nature has taken up more and more of my time and consciousness, I have come up with various tricks for surviving in a big city without sacrificing my need for proximity to soil, soil and greenery. Living in harmony with nature does not mean, as many seem to believe, that you move out into a cave in the forest and live on what you can hunt and gather. It is rather to consciously let it become a part of our lives. We are a part of nature, from there we can replenish our vitality and get close to life.
Here are some tips on how you, as a city dweller, can "go wild":
- Note what is growing around you. Even in urban environments, trees, dandelions, common dandelion, common chamomile, and plantain grow.
- Let your eye search for green (in season!) a good trick to become more present.
- Eat food in season! That's when it tastes best and it's the food that it's natural for our bodies to eat at that time.
- Pick wild edible plants. The searching and gathering is soothing and calming, and eating those plants is a pleasurable and fun way to literally become one with your surroundings.
- Pick wild flowers and put them in a vase.
- A little more hardcore: take a course and learn how to survive in the wilderness! It's a fantastic way to get to know yourself in depth and increase your self-confidence.
- Take another walk and notice what wildlife is near you. Birds? Insects? Rats? Hares? Mice?
- Take a wild vacation and book a hiking trip - Sweden offers fantastic areas with breathtaking nature experiences.
- Move as often as you can – the body is made for movement! Walk, run, jump, dance, skip, stretch… it has a huge impact on your mood and health.
- Take a walk in the nearest natural area and enjoy how nice it is to be in an environment that doesn't demand anything from you, that doesn't judge or criticize. Where you can completely be yourself.
Stay wild!
