I think environmental awareness starts in the small things in everyone's everyday life. And if everyone did something small, it could actually make a difference. Taking care of your household waste and letting it break down into nutrient-rich soil is a step on the way. After all, all cultivation requires fertile and loose soil to use for your crops. And with compost soil, you can improve and strengthen the existing one.
What seems to be the best form of compost to invest in is a hot compost. An insulated compost container with a grid in the bottom and a proper lid to close it with. Then you can use it year-round to throw away your household waste and pests and cold will not be a problem.
What can you compost? Garden waste such as leaves and grass clippings, crushed eggshells, fruit and vegetable peels, meat and fish scraps, bread, coffee grounds, tea leaves, kitchen paper, old potted plants, etc. You should be careful to finely chop what you put in your compost so that you speed up the decomposition process. And I hardly need to mention that snuff, cigarette butts and other obviously toxic things should not be put in the compost.
Remember not to put down leaves or plant parts that are infected by fungus and other things. You shouldn't put down ashes either. But I also read in several places that it is recommended to water the compost with golden water once a month. Pee in a container and mix it with water and pour it into the compost and stir 1 part pee and 10 parts water. Something to keep in mind is if you take a lot of medication and birth control pills, you shouldn't water your compost with that pee.
So if you have the opportunity to start composting at home, just get started.
