Toilet paper rolls are perfect as small plant pots and are also both environmentally friendly and a perfect craft to do with the kids.
1. Take a paper roll and cut it to the desired height. Then cut four tabs at one end. Fold the tabs in so that they form a bottom. You can also skip making a bottom and place the rolls directly on newspaper in a tray.
2. Fill the roll with potting soil, but make sure to leave a couple of centimeters at the top. Water. Add one or more seeds, fill with soil and water a little again so they don't dry out. Then place the rolls in a bright place and let them germinate, preferably in a tray. Large seeds that germinate quickly are best for toilet rolls.
3. When the plants are ready to be planted out – plant them in together with the roll. The roots will then find their way out on their own and you will have fantastic plants. You can also tear up one side of the roll a little so the roots can find their way out more easily. Make sure there is enough soil around the toilet rolls so there is no mold and bury the toilet roll deep enough that it does not stick out of the soil. It will rot in the soil.
