In our neighboring country Finland, the Mecca of sauna bathing, a research study was presented in 2017 on the health benefits of sauna bathing. And I think it is interesting that evidence-based material can be demonstrated on something that so many people have suspected and known. This study involved 102 men with an average age of 52 years. The participants all had at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The participants were examined before, immediately after and 30 minutes after the sauna bath.
The results showed that a sauna bath at 73 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes lowered blood pressure, the blood vessels showed greater elasticity and the body temperature increased by 2 degrees. The participants' heart rate increased as if they had trained for a medium or intensive session. So my little advice is to sauna more. Make it your moment for relaxation. Let stress, worry and tense muscles soften and disappear in the sauna heat. A good friend of mine always says: "It's not just my clothes that I leave outside the sauna, but also all my stress and worry." And strangely enough, most things can usually be solved so much easier after a moment of contemplation in the sauna.
